Abimael Gusman - Anti-communist inquisitors or how to bury a myth?

Every year, on the same day, they gather to celebrate, but above all to recall their great contribution, without compensation, to the rescue of democracy in Peru, as they claim. They are retired policemen of various ranks, members of GEIN, the special intelligence unit set up within the National Anti-Terrorist Directorate, the notorious DINCOTE. They started in the early 1990s under the presidency of the social democrat Garcia and continued during the years of the fascist Fuhimori. Operation Victoria. Eighty-six carefully selected police officers, led by Captain Benedicto Jimenez, went on the hunt for the leadership of the illegal Communist Party of Peru after being recruited, trained and equipped with advanced technology hardware by the US Embassy in Lima and the CIA.

Stan Swamy lived a life of service to the poor and oppressed. He paid for his commitment

Stan Swamy died Monday afternoon in the Holy Family Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai. A thorn in the Narendra Modi government’s unknown plan for development in the forests of Jharkhand has been removed. Those who wanted him out of the way will be happy — though crocodile tears may be shed.
Citizens of this ancient land who have a heart will shed a genuine tear or two. I am one of those who is grieved. There will be many more like me, some vocal but mostly silent mourners whose cerebral dislike for injustice rankles in their guts. I may be categorised as a co-religionist of the Jesuit priest, but the great majority of the mourners cannot be accused of even a whiff of parochial feelings.

Concerning Violence

Colonialism is not a thinking machine nor a body endowed with reasoning faaculties. It is violence in its natural state and it will only yield when confronted with greater violence.

 WATCH CONCERNING VIOLENCE HERE

Göran Hugo Olsson’s Concerning Violence is the first major film to grapple with the work of the influential Martinican author and psychiatrist Frantz Fanon since Isaac Julien’s biographical documentary Frantz Fa
non: Black Skin, White Mask (1995). Whereas the earlier film took a holistic, if esoteric, approach to appraising Fanon’s life and ideas (including his upbringing in Martinique, education in France and work in Algeria), the punchy Concerning Violence focuses on a specific sliver: the opening chapter of Fanon’s classic text The Wretched of the Earth (1961), in which the author posits the act of one nation colonising another as a form of pure, subjugating violence. Fanon also discusses violence – in the context of uprising and rebellion – as a means of liberation and physical, spiritual catharsis for the oppressed.

Men, Women Fighters, and Che Guevara Banners: Socialists of Gaza Take Center Stage (PHOTOS)

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Palestine’s largest socialist movement, held a large rally in Gaza City on Wednesday, June 2.

The rally was held under the banner of celebrating the victory of the Resistance in the latest Israeli war on the besieged Strip, which started on May 10 and lasted for 11 days.

The rally was also motivated by another objective, asserting the centrality of the socialist movement in Palestinian resistance and political discourse.

Thousands of Palestinians, mostly PFLP supporters, turned out to the massive rally, where hundreds of men and women fighters marched in the Rimal neighborhood in Gaza City.

ON THE GREAT UPRISING OF THE COLOMBIAN PEOPLE

REPORT OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF COLOMBIA (RED FRACTION)

Three weeks have already passed since the beginning of the national strike in Colombia on April 28. Three weeks of uninterrupted protests which initially targeted an anti-popular tax reform proposal presented to the congress but which have turned into a real popular uprising against the government of the reactionary Iván Duque and his party the Democratic Centrei, led by the landowner, paramilitary chief and genocidal leader Álvaro Uribe Vélez, an enemy of the people deeply hated by the Colombian masses especially for having commanded the thousands of extrajudicial executions (known as „falsos positivos“) that were carried out in the country by the reactionary armed forces during his mandate (2002-2010) in the midst of the war of the old state against the revisionist guerrillas of the FARCii and the ELNiii.

A Ceasefire Isn’t Enough – It’s Time to End the Occupation

By Shabbir Lakha

On Saturday 15 May, as the bombs were raining down over Gaza, 150,000 people shut down the streets of London and laid siege on the Israeli embassy. It was a sight to behold. People of all ages, from all communities came together, united in rage and solidarity. It was one of 77 protests taking place across the UK and marked the biggest Palestine protests since 2014.

Israel has now agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza, but only after killing over 230 Palestinians, almost a third of them children, and only after bombing homes, medical facilities, schools and key infrastructure. The ceasefire had been on the table for a week, but with the backing of Biden vetoing a UN call for a ceasefire thrice, Israel repeatedly rejected it and deliberately chose to escalate its bombardment no matter the civilian casualties.

The ceasefire is welcome. It will wind down the barbarity we have witnessed in the last eleven days. But as the BBC’s Paul Adams admitted,

These episodes follow a familiar pattern: Israel presses home its undoubted military advantage until the international outcry over civilian casualties, and a deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, demand that the operation end.
